Gombe NSCDC rescues six teenage sex workers

Six teenage sex workers rescued from a joint were paraded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Gombe State Command, on Tuesday.

Those paraded, according to reports, were between the ages of 16 and 19, rushing around the Mile Three Meluku neighbourhood.

The adolescents came from the neighbouring states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, and Plateau, according to Commandant Waziri Goni.

According to him, his troops rescued the teenagers in the middle of the night near Gidan Solo after receiving helpful information from locals.

Goni said two of the operators of the facility had been arrested and charged to court, adding that the Command had waited in vain for their parents to show up.

Goni said, “It is a pity none of their parents has shown up at least for them.

“These are promising youths wasting away with no certain future.”

The commandant pleaded with parents to ensure strict monitoring of their wards to avoid breeding of future criminals, adding that the likes of the girls harbour criminals.

However, the duo of Aisha Umar from Bauchi and Faizah Mohammed from Gombe States said they were involved in commercial sex work, stressing that it had been rewarding.

According to Mohammed, “I charge between N15,000 and N25,000 for home services.”

The owner of Rocket Hotel, Love Samuel, who was also paraded, said she was unaware of the illicit act perpetrated in her premises, adding that she let out the structure on rent to the two sponsors.
