Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has placed the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Abubakar Jungudo, on suspension over alleged misconduct, pending the outcome of an official probe.
The governor also approved the formation of a special investigative panel to examine the allegations brought against the senior official.
The decision was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
The Head of Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, said the governor approved the panel after reviewing “the nature and gravity of the allegations” contained in the complaint.
Shehu said, “The Governor, having carefully considered the nature and gravity of the allegations contained in the complaint, directed the immediate suspension of the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions pending the outcome of the investigation.”
He stressed that the suspension was carried out in accordance with due process to guarantee an impartial investigation.
According to him, “The decision is in line with the principles of due process and is intended to ensure a fair, transparent and unhindered investigation into the allegations.”
Justice Haruna Kereng of the Gombe State High Court will lead the investigative panel.
Other members include a representative of the Ministry of Justice, delegates from the Nigerian Bar Association, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Gombe, and officials of the Department of State Services. The Permanent Secretary for Establishment and Service Matters in the Office of the Head of Civil Service will act as secretary.
The committee has been directed to begin its assignment immediately by reviewing the allegations, assessing available evidence, and submitting its findings and recommendations to the governor through the Office of the Head of Civil Service.
