Dr. Juliet Ehimuan, who served as Google’s first Director for West Africa, has revealed her departure from the company.
In a LinkedIn post on Friday, she shared her plans to pursue a more expansive role within the regional technology sector.
Prior to her position as Google’s West Africa Director, Ehimuan held the role of Country Director for Nigeria within the company.
Her departure marks a significant transition in her career and opens new opportunities for her in the evolving technology landscape of the region.
Throughout her tenure as Director, Dr. Juliet Ehimuan achieved remarkable accomplishments with the Google team in Africa. Their efforts resulted in the successful training of over 6 million Africans in digital skills, with a specific focus on providing web and mobile development training to 100,000 developers. Ehimuan also spearheaded the establishment of a Google for Startups accelerator dedicated to supporting African tech entrepreneurs.
Under Ehimuan’s leadership, several important access projects were implemented. Notably, the Google Station program in Nigeria was expanded, allowing more people to access the internet.
Additionally, the deployment of Google’s Equiano fiber cable, connecting Africa with Europe from Portugal to South Africa, played a crucial role in improving internet accessibility and affordability for millions of individuals in Nigeria and beyond.
Ehimuan’s involvement in committees such as the National Economic Summit Group (NESG) and the Presidential Committee has been instrumental.
She played a pivotal role in creating the national broadband plan in 2019, which significantly influenced the ICT strategy of the region.
