Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has expressed deep condolences to the victims of a gas explosion that occurred in the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta, the state capital, on Saturday evening.
The incident, which took place around 5 pm, was triggered by a single accident involving a gas truck branded with Gasco Marine at the Ita Oshin junction, not far from the roundabout. The truck was heading inward Abeokuta when it lost control and crashed into the road pavement, eventually coming to a stop.
The driver of the truck fled the scene, while the assistant, referred to as the truck boy, tragically lost his life. His severely injured body has since been taken to the General Hospital, Ijaiye.
The explosion resulted in the complete destruction of four parked vehicles and significant damage to five shops, with one being completely consumed by the fire.
Responding to the emergency, four fire trucks from both the Federal and Ogun State Fire Services were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
