Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has denounced the recent killing of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju road.

According to security reports, the victims were attacked while riding a motorcycle from Oju.

Governor Alia also condemned a separate assault on the Nyifon community in Mbaikyongo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area. The incident, reportedly triggered by a dispute over a boat mishap, was carried out by youths from the Mbayaka community in Kusuv, also in Buruku LGA.

“These incidents, occurring in different Local Government Areas, are deeply regrettable and unjustifiable,” Alia said.

“No individual or group has the right to invade another community or cause harm under any circumstances.”

The governor directed security agencies to work closely with local traditional rulers and conduct comprehensive sweeps of the affected areas. He ordered that within 48 hours, the culprits must be identified and arrested to face justice.

“Benue State is achieving security stability, and I will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace we strive to maintain,” affirmed the Governor.

He assured residents of his administration’s steadfast commitment to protecting lives and property, urging all communities to maintain peace and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
