The National Youth Service Corps has been promised of ongoing support from Ogun State by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
During a courtesy visit to the Government House in Abeokuta, he informed the NYSC National Governing Board of this.
Abiodun welcomed the delegates led by its Chairman, Fatima Abubakar, and also praised the program for its contribution to national development in a statement that was made available to reporters on Monday.
After that, the Governor called the NYSC “a right step in the right direction”
“The NYSC Scheme is geared towards national unity and integration which is very commendable because many of our children have been exposed to the different parts of the country through NYSC. It has helped them to interact with fellow youths from other parts of the country. This, to a very great extent, has promoted national unity and integration,” he said during the meeting on Wednesday.
Abiodun stated that his government will continue to support the NYSC program in the State even if the state government was struggling with a lack of funding.
He committed to providing more support for the plan, including the renovation of an ambulance, connecting the orientation camp in Sagamu’s public power supply to the Ikenne Grid, which will increase the number of hours of electricity supply, and sending the State Ministry of Works to inspect the state-owned Corps Lodge in Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, to determine whether it needs to be renovated due to its dilapidation.
The governor’s unwavering support for the plan in the State was earlier praised by the chairman of the governing board. The Sagamu Orientation camp, according to her, is the best in the nation.
