Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen for the state’s 31 local government areas, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people.
Of the 31 chairmen, 30 were elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), while one was elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Additionally, five of the newly elected local government chairmen are women, and women occupy 26 of the vice chairmanship positions.
The new chairmen will oversee the affairs of their respective local government areas for the next three years.
Governor Umo Eno expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for their dedication to ensuring a free and fair election.
He also reminded the newly sworn-in chairmen that taking office at a time of economic challenges places a significant responsibility on them to improve conditions for the benefit of the people at the grassroots level.
Governor Eno urged the new chairmen to promote peace and unity at the grassroots level by prioritizing the welfare of the people, in line with his administration’s Arise Agenda.
Following their swearing-in, the chairmen will oversee the swearing-in of elected ward councillors across the 31 local government areas of the state.
