Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has applauded the verdict the Court of Appeal’s decision to remove Elisha Abbo from office and declare Amos Yohanna as the Senator representing Adamawa North in the National Assembly.
In its ruling on Monday, a three-judge panel at the Abuja Court of Appeal, with Justice C.E. Nwosu-Iheme presiding, removed Abbo, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from office.
The court also instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant Yohanna, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a Certificate of Return as the duly elected representative for the National Assembly in that constituency.
In reaction to the court’s ruling, Fintiri, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, described the judgment as the ultimate validation of the choice made by the people of Adamawa North at the polling stations.
While extending his congratulations to Yohanna for his win, the governor emphasized that “the judgment of the Court has further restored the confidence Nigerians repose in the institution of the judiciary and the hope for the sustenance of democracy in our country”.
He praised the court for its bravery in upholding justice and reinforcing the notion that the “judiciary is the final recourse for ordinary citizens.”
The governor emphasized that the judiciary serves as the genuine mediator that reinstates authority to the populace.
He underscored the importance of politicians pursuing power through legitimate means and not undermining the intrinsic strength of democracy.
