Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has given approval for a payment of N100,000 to every civil servant in the state.
The bonus will be distributed among the millions of employees in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Joe Johnson said the approval was given on Tuesday for “immediate implementation to enable the civil servants to have a wonderful yuletide celebration.”
This marks the first occasion in a considerable period when civil servants in the state will be granted Christmas bonuses, especially at the substantial amount of one hundred thousand naira, surpassing the nation’s minimum wage by more than threefold.
Governor Fubara has consistently expressed his commitment to enhancing the welfare of civil servants and advocating for the interests of low-income earners in the state.
During the presentation of the 2024 budget proposal of N800 billion to the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Edison Ehie last week, the Governor pledged to address the manpower shortage in the civil service by expediting the recruitment process of new staff.
Fubara, the immediate past Accountant General of the state, holds the distinction of being the first civil servant to assume the position of Governor in Rivers State.
