Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers in Taraba State.
The implementation will commence in November 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the state Head of Service, Paul Maigida.
“I wish to inform you that His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 new minimum wage for workers in Taraba State, effective from November 2024,” the statement read.
Maigida added that the decision aligns with the administration’s commitment to address the needs and aspirations of the state’s workers.
In a separate development, troops in Taraba State have apprehended 12 suspected kidnappers in the Takum Local Government Area.
The suspects were reportedly captured following a distress call from residents of Chachanji village regarding the abduction of two people by a group of approximately 10 armed men on motorbikes on 7 November.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, spokesman for the 6 Brigade, said in a statement that 14 motorcycles, two bags of Indian hemp, and a locally made pistol were recovered during the operation.
“Upon contact with the armed group, the troops’ superior firepower forced the kidnappers to retreat further into the bush, abandoning their locally fabricated pistol and two bags of Indian hemp,” he said.
“The troops’ thorough search of the area deterred further criminal activity and disrupted the kidnappers’ operations.”
According to the statement, in a follow-up operation, the troops apprehended the 12 suspects and seized 14 motorcycles at a local drinking spot in Mbhakyir village, near Agu Centre, on 9 November.
