Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended another commissioner, Uchenna Igwe, over alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
Governor Nwifuru announced the suspension during a press briefing at his office in the New Government House, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.
Igwe, who served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, was indefinitely suspended on Monday with immediate effect.
Reports indicate that the suspension followed Igwe’s failure to effectively carry out an assignment from the governor regarding the payment of local government pensions by a council chairman in the state.
This marks the fourth commissioner recently suspended by Governor Nwifuru.
Last month, the governor indefinitely suspended the commissioners for Housing and Urban Development, Water Resources, and imposed a three-month suspension on the Health Commissioner, citing dereliction of duty and gross misconduct. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling the people’s charter of needs.
