Gov Yahaya Bello vows to hunt down perpetrators of Kogi community killings

Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, has vowed to identify and bring to justice those responsible for recent attacks on villages in the state’s Oganenigu Ward of Dekina LGA.

He said that steps had been taken to ensure that the military, police, and other pertinent security services were dispatched right away to the affected districts in order to restore peace and completely end the violence.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Edward Onoja, disclosed this while addressing journalists after an on-the-spot assessment of the affected communities in Oganenigu, according to a statement released on Wednesday morning by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Promise Emmanuel.

Governor Bello, who called the extrajudicial executions “satanic,” told the public that his administration was committed to rooting out those who profit from crimes while protecting people’s lives and property.

He continued, warning that attempts by criminals to return Kogi State to the period of insecurity before to 2015 would be met with fierce resistance, notwithstanding the fact that there were pockets of criminality there.

Although expressing sympathy to the relatives of the deceased, he once more cautioned the populace against enacting new legislation because concerted efforts were being made to rehabilitate assault victims.

In conjunction with the State Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Sunday Faleke, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, and the State Security Advisor, Navy Comr. Jerry Omodara, Chief Onoja conducted the assessment on behalf of Governor Bello (retd.).

Also, there are representatives from the State Emergency Management Agency and the State Commandant of Police, CP Hakeem Yusuf, NSCDC Ahmed Gandi, and the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General N.J. Edet.

As a result, a larger meeting with security officials, representatives from the Kogi and Nasarawa chapters of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the chairs of the local government associations for Olamaboro, Igalamela, Idah, and Dekina, as well as other interested parties, was held at the Ata Igala’s Palace in Idah. Chief John Egwemi, the Ejeh Ibaji, was the Atta’s representative.
