The Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, on Saturday, inaugurated the 9th Mile 24/7 Water Scheme, boasting a daily production capacity of 70,000 cubic meters.
During his gubernatorial campaign, the governor pledged to provide water to every household in the state within 180 days of taking office, a commitment that came to fruition on Saturday.
Designating the day as ‘Enugu Water Day,’ Governor Mbah announced ongoing plans to inaugurate new pumps in the Oji Water Scheme, enabling an additional production of 50,000 cubic meters of water daily, resulting in a total daily supply of 120,000 cubic meters.
The 9th Mile facility, which came into existence 41 years ago and ceased operations 20 years ago, has now been revived and upgraded. It is widely believed that this restoration will significantly address the persistent water-related challenges in the state.
Mbah announced that his administration has devised strategies for the Oji Water Scheme, boasting a daily capacity of 50,000 cubic meters.
The governor also visited various business and residential areas not directly connected to pipelines, although the state government had facilitated water access through a water gallery to keep the taps flowing. He assured that such areas would soon be included in upcoming pipeline extension plans.
