Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reinstated Mr Jonathan Paragua Zamuna as the Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere Local Government Area, complying with the judgement of the Kaduna Industrial Court.
The monarch had been removed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration following recommendations by the Ministry of Local Government Affairs under Section 11 of the Traditional Institutions Law No. 21 of 2021.
Dissatisfied, Zamuna sought redress from the National Industrial Court, which on 14 June 2024 nullified his removal, deeming it “null and void.” The court ordered his reinstatement with full salaries, allowances, and benefits.
Rule of Law and Equal Treatment
Speaking on Wednesday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House while presenting Zamuna’s appointment letter, Governor Sani emphasised his administration’s commitment to justice, due process, and the rule of law.
The Governor congratulated Zamuna on his reinstatement and urged him to serve his people equitably, without ethno-religious bias.
“It is the will of God to create diversity among us and place us in the same geographic location. Let us use this diversity to foster peace and understanding,” Sani stated.
Leadership and Reflection
The Governor advised the reinstated chief to reflect on past events, learn from them, and lead with courage and compassion.
“Our administration did not hesitate to comply with the court ruling, as we are committed to upholding justice and sustaining peace in Kaduna State,” he added.
Chief Zamuna’s Response
In his remarks, the Chief of Piriga expressed gratitude for his reinstatement, affirming that the 12 ethnic groups in his chiefdom coexist peacefully. He pledged to continue promoting harmony among his people.
