Group screens 1,000 Osun residents in celebration of world diabetes day

Over 1000 inhabitants of the Iragbiji community in Osun State received free diabetes screenings and treatment on Saturday as part of the Lions Club International, Osun Axis’ observance of the 2022 World Diabetes Day.

The beneficiaries were also made aware of diabetes prevention and management techniques at the screening, which was held at the palace of Aragbiji.

Toyin Adesoye, the chairperson of Diabetes Awareness and Action for 2022/2023 Lion Service Year, said to reporters during the occasion that the group decided on diabetes screening and treatment to enhance their health and wellbeing.

She said, “The programme is in line with the Lions International club’s mission to provide health services to the community.

“The Lions, Osun Axis in conjunction with Sugar and Cholesterol Control Foundation are here today to screen and provide medical help to the people of Iragbiji. This program is one of the five core projects of lions which we normally do every year and it is to celebrate world diabetes day.

“We intend to screen about 1000 people. We are also going to provide treatment for them. We want our people to be healthy. We believe that providing such screening and treatment for our people will go a long way in making them healthy.”

The club’s primary goal, according to District Governor Lekan Owolabi, who was represented by former District Governor Ademola Adesoye, is service to humanity.
