Gunmen ambush, kill police in Rivers
An Assistant Superintendent of Police was attacked and killed by gunmen in Rivers State’s Oyigbo Local Government Area.
According to reports, the unnamed officer working for the Rivers State Police Command was attacked by the attackers on his way home from work on Wednesday in the Oyigbo region.
The operative was shot, our source learned, and eventually passed away in the hospital.
The attack on the ASP has not yet been attributed to any one group.
When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, verified the death.
Iringe-Koko claimed that Friday Eboka, the state commissioner of police, has directed an investigation into the incident in an effort to determine what exactly happened before the attack and identify and prosecute those responsible.
She said, “He was returning to his house after work around 9 pm or so when they ambush him. We will ensure they are fished out.
“Already the commissioner of police has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to book.”
