Tanker explodes in Jigawa, no fatalities

A fuel tanker accident occurred on Maiduguri Road near Gamoji village in Jigawa State, northwest Nigeria, on Wednesday.

The incident, which took place around Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, was reported to the authorities at approximately 10:43 am by the Head of Kuho Village, Zubairu Ahmad.

The Jigawa Command of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) promptly responded to the distress call, deploying FFS 20 to the scene. Firefighters arrived swiftly at 10:50 am and managed to control the blaze caused by the accident, successfully preventing any fatalities. One minor injury was reported, but no other casualties occurred.

In an official statement, Aliyu M. A., the Public Relations Officer (FFPRO) for the Jigawa Command, praised the rapid response and coordination of the firefighting team.

“The fire was contained and brought under control with minimal delay,” he stated. “Thankfully, there was no loss of life, and only one individual sustained minor injuries. We appreciate the cooperation of local residents and the village head, whose swift report allowed us to take prompt action.”

This accident highlights the critical importance of safety protocols in the transport of hazardous materials.

“The situation could have escalated, but our team was prepared and well-equipped for this type of emergency,” added Aliyu.

Local authorities are collaborating with the FFS to investigate the cause of the accident, and all nearby roads have now been reopened.

As a precaution, the FFS has urged all drivers and transport companies handling combustible materials to prioritise vehicle maintenance and adhere strictly to safety guidelines.
