Gunmen attack Military checkpoint in Ebonyi, kill two

Two people were reportedly killed in an attack on a military checkpoint along the Amangwu axis of the Amasiri-Owutu road in the Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to an eyewitness, the attack occurred early Friday morning and was carried out by gunmen on a motorcycle. During the ensuing gun battle, a soldier and one of the gunmen were killed, causing panic among residents, motorists, and commuters in the area.

The eyewitness noted that commuters had to wait for hours until normalcy was restored before they could continue their journeys.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that he had not yet received information about the attack from the Owutu Police Division at the time of this report.
