Gunmen dispersed citizens, primarily traders, in the Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, suburbs of Ishieke and Ukwuachi on Tuesday.

The gunmen, who were enforcing a sit-at-home order issued by the banned Indigenous residents of Biafra (IPOB), sparked panic in the neighbourhoods, with residents fleeing for safety.

The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, verified the occurrence and stated that no one was wounded.

According to the police spokeswoman, officers and personnel from the Command arrived and pursued the hoodlums who escaped in various directions.

The incident on Tuesday came after militants burned a patrol van in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area on Monday.
