Gunmen invade community, kill 19 people, set houses ablaze in Kogi

Unknown gunmen have attacked the Agojeju Odo community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, resulting in the deaths of nineteen (19) individuals and the destruction of numerous homes by fire.

Confirming the incident on Friday, William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, disclosed that unidentified gunmen launched an assault on the community on Thursday.

Aya reported that the Divisional Police Office of the local government relayed that 19 individuals were killed and several others sustained injuries in the attack.

He further mentioned that the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Bethrand Onuoha, has dispatched additional police officers to the affected communities, ensuring that the perpetrators of the atrocious act will be apprehended.

Meanwhile, local residents recounted that the assailants targeted the quiet town of Agojeju Odo, leading neighboring communities like Ajokpachi Odo and Bagaji, all in Omala local government, to be currently deserted.

The communities appealed to Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo, and security agencies to intervene by deploying more personnel to the area, citing that the police in the Local Government Area have been overwhelmed and outmatched by the attackers.
