Gunmen kidnap ex-Imo Assembly Speaker, four others
Gunmen have reportedly abducted former Speaker of the Imo State 8th House of Assembly Lawman Duruji.
It was learnt that Duruji, who is still in the custody of his abductors, was kidnapped at Oriagu in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state on Saturday while returning from a social function.
Within a space of 48 hours, the former Speaker was kidnapped; more than three people had been kidnapped at various points across the state.
It was reported also that the wife of an ex-chairman of Okigwe Local Government Area, and the Commandant-General of the Imo Community Watch, Frank Onwunere has been kidnapped. It is still sketchy how the woman was abducted.
It was also gathered that gunmen kidnapped an unidentified person at Okwelle Junction in the Onuimo Local Government Area.
When contacted, the police spokesperson for the command, Michael Abattam, said he had heard about the abduction of the former Speaker, adding that he was waiting for an official report on it.
“I just heard it. I have sent for an official report on the abduction and I will get back to you,” he said.
