Unknown gunmen kidnapped Popoola Olasupo, an official of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, while he was on his way to work with another member of the corps.
Olasupo was reportedly abducted around 6.30 a.m. on Sunday near the Eledumare-Fidiwo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway in Ogun State’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
TRACE confirmed the abduction, but did not want his name published due to the sensitive nature of the situation.
It was also learned that police officers and volunteers are currently on the hunt for the gunmen.
The source said the gunmen, who emerged from the bush, opened fire on a commercial bus in which the official was travelling and he was the only one abducted.
Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Akinbiyi did not answer the calls made to his mobile and had not responded to a text message sent to him.
When contacted, however, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
“Our anti-kidnapping squad is already after them. We are combing the forest and we know that they will all be arrested.
“Ogun State is not a ground for criminals to settle. It is either they leave or we smoke them out of this state,” Oyeyemi said.
