Gunmen last Friday abducted the commuters of an 18-passenger commercial bus near the boundary, between Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, and Ayere, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A small girl was left behind when the abductors reportedly killed the bus’s driver and abducted every passenger, hiding them in a nearby jungle.
Later, when other passengers on the route arrived, they discovered the bus at the side of the road, abandoned.
Shortly after, a number of security personnel, including members of the Police, Amotekun, soldiers, and local hunters, showed up at the location and began searching the surrounding bushes.
In a statement provided to reporters in Akure, the state capital, SP ‘Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the spokeswoman for the Ondo State Police Command, verified the event.
She mentioned that since then, a squad of officers from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad have been dispatched to the region by State Commissioner of Police Abayomi Oladipo.
In an effort to free the victims and find the kidnappers, the team is currently searching the whole area.
