A group of gunmen has killed a businesswoman in the Mayo Dasa area of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

The incident took place around midnight on Friday, December 6, 2024.

The Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the attack in a telephone interview with Channels Television.

He stated that the assailants broke into the house by using machetes to shatter the windows.

“She was reading in her room, preparatory for an examination she was writing, and all of a sudden they opened fire on her, shot her at the back which penetrated and came out through the stomach,” he said.

”After breaking the windows, while in fear the occupants of the house stepped out to be whisked away and surprisingly they did not take anyone along with them.”

He noted that the gunmen did not steal anything during the attack.

The second incident, according to the police spokesperson, occurred in the Jerbanbur area of Jalingo.

In a similar manner, the gunmen opened fire on a clergyman but left without taking any valuables or abducting other occupants of the house.

Usman disclosed that both victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment in the hospital.

He described the attack as unusual, as the gunmen typically kidnap their victims and demand ransom.

He confirmed that the police have launched a discreet investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of these crimes.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the police urged them to find solace in God, assuring them that all efforts will be made to bring those responsible to justice.
