Gunmen kill DPO, injure Police officer in Delta

A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from the Agbarho police division has been killed by gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.

Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Monday.

He also reported that the DPO of the Ororoekpe Division was injured after being shot by the same attackers and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to Edafe, the two DPOs were on an operation with other officers when they were ambushed by the gunmen. He assured that the police are actively pursuing the suspects and are determined to apprehend them.

Additionally, Edafe reported a security breach in Onitcha Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area, where youths went on a rampage, setting buildings and properties on fire.

The violence was triggered after a community member was allegedly beaten to death by a suspected land grabber who was accused of forcibly taking community land.

The unrest escalated after some community leaders opposed the land seizure, leading to the violent outbreak, which resulted in one fatality.

Edafe stated that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
