On Monday, gunmen ambushed and killed four police officers in the Irete community along Onitsha Road in Owerri, Imo State’s capital.

According to sources, the shooters targeted police officers who were on stop-and-search duty in the neighbourhood.

Daredevil gunman also reportedly killed a Point of Sale (PoS) operator during the incident.

Henry Okoye, the state’s police spokesman, verified the terrible incident. He stated that four cops were murdered, not six.

The attack is the latest in a series of non-state actor attacks on security agents in Imo State and the South-East geopolitical zone, which has seen a slew of gunman attacks in recent years.
