Gunmen have reportedly killed a 35-year-old man, Sufiyanu Garba, and abducted his wife during an attack in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi in the early hours of Thursday.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, Bashir Usman, said the command had begun a full investigation into the matter.
He said, “The Kebbi State Police Command expresses concern over an unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of today, 13th March 2026, in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, which resulted in the death of Sufiyanu Garba, aged 35, and the abduction of his wife.”
Usman stated that detectives swiftly visited the scene and immediately commenced necessary investigations after receiving the report.
According to him, the victim was taken to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were later deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
He added that a police checkpoint was situated close to the location of the attack, stressing that timely information from residents could help security operatives respond more effectively during emergencies.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough and diligent investigation aimed at rescuing the abducted victim and bringing those responsible to justice,” he said.
The command also reassured residents that measures were being intensified to strengthen security across Kebbi State and encouraged members of the public to promptly report emergencies through the police 24-hour distress lines.
