On Saturday, assailants assassinated Sylvanus Namang, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, and one other person.
According to sources, the event took place at a leisure center in Pankshin, which is part of the state’s Pankshin LGA.
According to the source, the gunmen stormed the building on Saturday night, shot at the APC spokesman from close range, and killed him on the spot.
The intruders abducted the other victim, whose body was later discovered along a nearby road.
Rufus Bature, the Plateau State Chairman of the party, confirmed Namang’s death.
Bature called Namang’s death as horrible and terrible, saying it has caused the party and family members to mourn.
It is unclear what the assailants’ motivation was in targeting the party’s publicity secretary, who was at the social centre with companions.
When called, Alfred Alabo, Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, stated that he was in a meeting and could not react to inquiries about the matter.
The late publicity secretary was a journalist who later became General Manager of the Plateau State Publishing Company.
