Armed men suspected of kidnapping have killed two commuters and kidnapped five more on the Ifon-Owo Highway in Ondo State.
According to reports, the commercial vehicle’s driver and a female passenger were shot and killed at the scene on Friday evening.
The attackers also abducted five other passengers, one of whom was a Corps member. However, two of the victims were able to escape with varied degrees of injury.
According to one local, the fully loaded commercial van was on its way from Anambra State to Owo and Akure in Ondo State when the attackers opened fire.
SP Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanyan, the Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Police Command, verified the occurrence to our correspondent over the phone.
She added that a team of police officers had been dispatched to the area and were combing the neighbouring forest to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue the victims.
