Suspected cult members fatally shot the manager of a hotel in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Thursday night.

The victim, identified as Anthony Balogun, was managing the hotel owned by his mother when the tragic incident occurred.

The attack took place around 8:00 p.m. on the hotel premises in the Olunlade area of Ilorin.

According to Channels Television, two gunmen entered the hotel and asked to see the manager. Believing they were potential customers, Balogun left his room to meet them at the reception.

A source at the hotel revealed that the assailants lured Balogun out of the reception area and shot him at close range in the chest. They then brutally attacked him with machetes, inflicting injuries on his head, hands, and legs.

Balogun’s elder sister informed Channels Television that she had reported the incident to the police.

“I spoke to him around 6:30 p.m. At about 7 p.m., he called me back to share some information. I asked one of the children to take the call, as I was busy in the kitchen,” said the sister, who wished to remain anonymous.

“When I returned his call around 8 p.m., his phone was switched off. I tried three more times without success. Shortly after, his wife called, asking me to come to the Kwara State General Hospital, now Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin. It was there that I found his mutilated body.”

A source at the Ganmo Divisional Police Station, where the case was reported, described it as a possible homicide.
