The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has expressed deep sorrow over the horrific murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education (KWCOE), Ilorin.
Hafsoh Lawal was killed by Abdulrahman Bello, an alleged Islamic cleric, whom she met on social media. Reports indicate that the suspect dismembered her body for supposed ritual purposes.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari strongly condemned the act, describing it as “unfortunate, alien, and an appalling display of wickedness.”
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure their children associate only with people of reputable character.
The Emir also called for decisive action against idleness and loitering among youths, emphasising the importance of hard work.
Furthermore, he urged religious leaders to expose fraudulent clerics like Bello before they cause more harm.
Offering condolences to Hafsoh Lawal’s family, he called on the police and judiciary to ensure justice is fully served.
He also directed Imams across Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State to focus their Friday sermons on morality, dignity in labour, and respect for human life.
