Hajj: Nigerian pilgrim allegedly commits suicide in Saudi Arabia

A tragic incident has occurred involving a Nigerian pilgrim, Hajia Hawawu Mohammed, from the Kwara State contingent, who reportedly took her own life by jumping from her rooftop in Madina, Saudi Arabia.

The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, confirmed this sad occurrence on Sunday. Saudi Arabian authorities also verified her death as a suicide.

Similarly, another pilgrim from Kwara State, Saliu Mohammed, was confirmed deceased by the Kwara State Board in the same statement.

Saliu Mohammed, a member of the Batch 3 contingent from Kwara State, passed away in the intensive care unit of a public hospital in Madina.

Expressing deep regret over these unfortunate incidents, the pilgrims’ board stated, “It deeply regrets these sad events but submits totally to the decree and ultimate knowledge of Allah in all affairs.”

Additionally, the Kebbi Pilgrims Welfare Board announced the passing of another pilgrim in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

A statement by Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to Kebbi Governor, gave the name of the deceased as Abubakar Abdullahi from Gulma town in Argungu Local Government Area.

The statement indicated that the pilgrim passed away following a short illness.

Abdullahi marks the third pilgrim from Kebbi to pass away in the sacred land.

According to the statement, Governor Nasir Idris expressed his astonishment at the loss and prayed for the departed soul to find eternal peace.

“The governor also urged the immediate family of the deceased, friends, and Kebbi pilgrims to take heart and accept the will of God in good faith,” it added.

It said that the deceased had since been buried according to Islamic rites after a funeral prayer at Masjid Al-Ihram (Ka’aba), on Friday.
