Hardship: Police allegedly arrest protesters in Ibadan

The Oyo state Police Command has allegedly arrested some protesters who were said to be members of the ‘Take it Back’ Movement during a protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Wednesday. 

Reportedly, the protesters congregated in the Mokola area of Ibadan to express grievances about the current hardships faced by Nigerians.

Some demonstrators were reportedly apprehended by the police for engaging in an unauthorized protest and disturbing public peace.

According to reports, the protesters, advocating an end to economic difficulties, insecurity, police brutality, and the reversal of electricity tariffs, were taken into custody following intelligence indicating disruptive behavior in the vicinity of their protest.

At a certain point, the group allegedly became confrontational and harassed the deployed police officers tasked with maintaining security in the area.

The arrests were purportedly made to prevent any significant disturbances of peace in the area.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the police regarding the matter, and the exact number of individuals detained remains unknown.
