He is a ‘politician made of jelly’ — Presidency mocks Peter Obi over ADC exit

The special adviser on information and strategy to the president, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a swipe at Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, following his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In December 2025, Obi revealed plans to join the coalition-backed ADC and formally became a member on March 7 after registering at Agulu ward 2 in Anaocha LGA of Anambra.

Reports later indicated that Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, were set to exit the party.

In a statement on Sunday, Obi confirmed his decision to leave, citing “endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division”.

He added that “the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced” him to leave “now appear to be finding their way into the ADC”.

Responding via a post on X, Onanuga described Obi as a “political nomad” and a “politician made of jelly”.

He argued that Obi’s exit was driven by his inability to compete for the party’s presidential ticket against former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi.

“The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob,” Onanuga wrote.

“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC.”

The presidential aide added that Obi had chosen “the easy road that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023”.

“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race,” Onanuga said.
