President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Dr Christopher Kolade, Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, describing him as one of the “finest of men.”
The veteran broadcaster and elder statesman passed away on Wednesday at the age of 92.
In a statement on Thursday, President Tinubu expressed deep sadness over Kolade’s passing, paying glowing tribute to his lifelong service to Nigeria and humanity.
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of the inimitable Dr Christopher Kolade, a broadcaster and boardroom guru who was one of Nigeria’s intellectual treasures,” Tinubu said.
He praised Kolade as a custodian of Nigeria’s corporate history, especially in governance and human resources management, noting his vital role in building institutions such as the Lagos Business School.
“Dr Kolade was among the finest of men—exceptionally brilliant, statesmanly, diligent, and a man of unimpeachable integrity,” the President added.
Tinubu highlighted Kolade’s illustrious career, recalling his leadership as Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, and his unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
He also commended Kolade’s service in multiple national roles, including as Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, describing him as a patriot who left “ineffaceable stamps of distinction” in every field he ventured into.
The President further acknowledged Kolade’s humanitarian work through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, particularly his support for sickle cell patients, a cause to which he devoted significant personal resources.
“Dr Kolade’s passing is painful, yet his life is one to celebrate,” Tinubu said. “He lived an exemplary life and immortalised himself through his uncommon service to our nation and humanity. He remains a lasting inspiration and a true representation of the selfless, resilient Nigerian spirit.”
Tinubu prayed that God Almighty grant him eternal rest and comfort to his family.
