A heavy security presence was observed at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt on Monday, as state lawmakers prepared to convene for their sitting.
Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, issued the notice for the sitting earlier in the day.
As of the time of this report, multiple squads of police officers and SSS operatives were stationed at the Assembly Quarters in the state capital, located in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
Although the agenda for Monday’s plenary has not been officially disclosed, there are strong indications that discussions will focus on local government administration in Rivers State.
This development follows a recent Supreme Court ruling ordering Speaker Amaewhule and other lawmakers to resume legislative sessions after months of a prolonged power struggle within the Assembly.
The apex court’s judgment also nullified the Rivers State local government elections conducted last year.
