A middle-aged man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State, while another man was critically hurt.
The incident, according to reports, happened on Sunday near the Olooru/Okoolowo axis of the expressway before Shao junction in the state’s Moro Local Government.
The car ran off the road and struck the two men while they were standing next to the road. According to reports, while one of the two men passed away quickly, the other was taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for care.
On Monday, Mr. Ade Ogidan, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara State, confirmed the occurrence.
According to him, “Two people (male) were hit during the incident but one of them died while the other sustained bruises and fractures.
“The FRSC team later took both the injured victim and the corpse to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Oke-Oyi, Ilorin.”
Ogidan, who only described the vehicle as a “red coloured private boxer,” implored drivers to desist from excessive speeding and reckless driving.
He also suggested that other road users and pedestrians employ patience when attempting to cross roadways to avoid getting run over by cars.
