Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finalized their divorce settlement after an eight-year legal battle, according to Jolie’s lawyer.

The couple, who married in 2014 and share six children, were one of Hollywood’s most iconic pairs, often referred to as “Brangelina” by the media.

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences.” During separate court proceedings, she alleged that Pitt had been abusive toward her and two of their children during a private jet flight that same year.

A police investigation into the incident concluded without charges being filed against Pitt, who has denied the allegations.

Pitt’s legal team has not issued any public statement regarding the settlement.

Jolie’s lawyer James Simon said in a statement to People magazine that his client has been focusing on “finding peace and healing for their family” since divorce proceedings began.

He continued: “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

The details of the divorce settlement between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have not been disclosed.

When the couple announced their separation in 2016, they issued a joint statement emphasizing that the process would be handled privately. Since then, both have refrained from speaking extensively about their relationship.

However, overlapping court cases have revealed a contentious divorce, with Jolie accusing Pitt of “waging a vindictive war” and Pitt alleging that Jolie sought to undermine his businesses.

While Jolie’s legal team confirmed that a divorce settlement has been reached, it remains unclear whether this will resolve their ongoing legal battle over a French vineyard, Chateau Miraval.

The vineyard, purchased jointly in 2008 for a reported €25 million (£21.3m), was not only their family retreat but also the site of their wedding. In 2022, Pitt accused Jolie of selling her stake in the property to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler—owner of Stolichnaya vodka and other brands—without his consent, allegedly to harm his wine business.

The legal proceedings surrounding Chateau Miraval also brought to light allegations of abuse. Jolie claimed in court documents that Pitt was physically and emotionally abusive during a 2016 private plane journey with their children, then aged 8 to 15. Her lawyers alleged that Pitt grabbed and pushed Jolie and also assaulted two of their children during the altercation.

Pitt has denied these allegations. In 2021, after a lengthy custody battle, he was awarded joint custody of their children.

In June, the couple’s third-eldest child, Shiloh, filed a petition in a Los Angeles court to remove Pitt from her name, officially becoming Shiloh Jolie. Additionally, two other children from the family have reportedly stopped using Pitt’s name.

At the height of their marriage, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were two of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. A Forbes report released shortly after their 2016 separation estimated their combined net worth at $400 million (£319 million).

The pair first met on the set of the 2005 action-comedy Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a collaboration that drew global media attention to their relationship.

The marriage marked Pitt’s second, following his high-profile union with Friends star Jennifer Aniston, and Jolie’s third, after actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

Jolie is best known for her roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Changeling, and Girl, Interrupted. Her latest work is Maria, a biopic about opera legend Maria Callas.

Pitt’s notable credits include Fight Club, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Twelve Monkeys. Most recently, he was spotted at Silverstone filming F1, a Formula One movie where he portrays veteran driver Sonny Hayes.
