The Rivers Administrator was present at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, alongside several state governors.

Ibas made his first appearance at the NEC meeting following his appointment as Sole Administrator for Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, after Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended in March 2025.

Vice President Kashim Shettima chaired the meeting, which included numerous governors and some deputy governors from all 36 states of the federation.

The long-awaited meeting between the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Rivers State and the Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, finally took place after multiple delays.

The House is exercising its constitutional authority to assume the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Ibas expressed regret for not attending the previous meeting and requested more time to prepare his briefing for the committee. He mentioned that he is still adjusting to his new responsibilities and sought the committee’s understanding.

After his appeal, journalists were asked to leave as the meeting proceeded to a closed session.

Once the hour-long meeting concluded, Retired Vice Admiral Ibas departed without making any comments.

Last week, the House committee rescheduled its session with Ibas, citing a formal request from him as the reason for the time change.
