Jude Ise-Idehen, the lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State in the House of Representatives, has died.
He passed away in the early hours of Friday.
Benjamin Kalu, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, confirmed the death.
Ise-Idehen, a 52-year-old Peoples Democratic Party member, had won his party’s ticket to run for re-election in the 2023 general elections.
Ise-Idehen was the eighth member of the 9th House, which was inaugurated on June 11, 2019, to die until his death.
The last member of the House to have died was the lawmaker who represented Oron Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, Ekpenyong Bassey. He died on April 24, 2022.
Before that was the death of Suleiman Aliyu of Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna State on April 6, 2021.
Aliyu’s death occurred five days after the lawmaker who represented Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in Plateau State, Haruna Maitala, died.
On December 2, 2019, the lawmaker who represented Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State in the House, Ja’afaru Iliyasu, died.
The lawmaker representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House, Muhammadu Gawo, died on December 31, 2019.
On February 8, 2021, the lawmaker representing Aba-North/South Federal Constituency, Abia State, in the House, Ossy Prestige, died.
On March 4, 2021, another member from Jigawa State, Yuguda Hassan Kila, who was the Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, died from an undisclosed illness at 70.
At the Senate, two members have died during the period.
Benjamin Uwajumogu, who represented Imo North Senatorial District at the Senate, died on December 18, 2019.
On June 15, 2020, the lawmaker representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Adebayo Osinowo, aka Pepper, died at the age of 64.
When asked about the feeling of the House on the fact that it had lost eight members within three years, Kalu said is it “awful and painful.”
Meanwhile, in its condolence, the state chapter of the PDP described the lawmaker’s death as a great loss to the party.
The state Chairman of the party, Tony Aziegbemi, said Ise-Idehen, who was a member of the Edo State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2011, was humble.
