House of Reps withdraws proposed State Police Bill

The House of Representatives on Tuesday withdrew its own constitutional amendment bill proposing the creation of state police.

The decision followed the lawmakers’ consideration of a separate State Police Bill submitted by the Executive.

During plenary, the House gave the Executive-sponsored bill its first and second readings before referring it to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative consideration.

The decision effectively puts the House’s earlier proposal on hold while attention shifts to the Executive-backed version of the amendment.

With the Executive bill now advancing in the House, lawmakers are expected to examine key provisions of the proposal during the committee stage.
