How FUOYE VC connived with Governing Council to terminate my appointment for offence I did not commit – Ex-Registrar

The sacked registrar of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Mr Olatunbosun Odusanya has accused the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina of conniving with the institution’s Governing Council to unjustly terminate his appointment.

Newsclickng.com reports that the Governing Council of the institution had on Wednesday, April 28 officially announced the suspension of the registrar over alleged misconduct.

The statement quoted Dr Mohammed Yahuza, the Chairman, Governing Council of the university as saying Odusanya was suspended during the council meeting held on April 20 in Oye-Ekiti.

According to the statement, the suspension is to pave way for proper investigation into allegations of irregular appointment during the university’s recruitment exercise between Aug. 1, 2020 and Feb. 10, 2021.

“The council has approved Mr Mufutau Ibrahim as FUOYE’s Acting Registrar,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the embattled registrar has petitioned the National Assembly over the illegal termination of his appointment.

Odusanya in the four-page petition sighted by Newsclickng.com accused the incumbent Vice Chancellor of wanting to settle old scores with him and the bursar for not supporting his aspiration to lead the institution.

The petition titled: “PETITION AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY GOVERNING COUNCIL AND THE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR WRONGFUL TERMINATION OF APPOINTMENT WITHOUT DUE PROCESS FOR OFFENCE NOT COMMITTED” partly reads:

“It is my brief that Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina who has just been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye, Ekiti barely three months has succeeded in carrying out one of his avowed intentions to unceremoniously and disgracefully disengage the University Registrar and the Bursar.

It is pertinent to note that, since his assumption of duty on February 11, 2021, he has been involved in maladministration and highhandedness in which no one in the university can check and advise on his excessiveness.

It has become imperative and unavoidable to make this known to the National Assembly due to the recent evil he orchestrated in the last ten days by using the Governing Council to wrongfully terminate the appointment of the Registrar without due process for the offence not committed at the emergency Council Meeting held on Tuesday 27th April, 2021. The procedures as in the university Statues to disengage a Principal Officer was not followed and fair hearing was jettisoned for wanting to carry out his premeditated desire.”

Odesanya also appealed the Senator Ahmed Lawan led Senate to void the decision of the Governing Council and reinstate him to his rightful position as registrar of the university.

Meanwhile the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina has said he does not have hands in the ‘misfortune’ of the registrar.

Fasina while reacting to allegations leveled against him by the sacked registrar said Odusanya was intentionally misleading the public about events leading to the termination of his appointment by the FUOYE Governing Council.

Reacting in a statement made available to journalists in Oye Ekiti on Sunday, Prof. Fasina said he would have ignored the unfounded allegations against his person but decided to reply to set the records straight.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media Matters, Mr Wole Balogun, the VC wondered why Odusanya who ordinarily should be the custodian of the University’s Regulations on staff discipline and termination of employment, would choose to distort facts and mislead the public about the action taken by the University Authority.

Describing Odusanya’s claims as unfounded, the VC said he has no axe to grind with anybody, urging the dismissed Registrar to channel his energies to other productive ventures.

“There is clearly no case of personal vendetta or witchhunt here. And that is for several reasons.

“First, Odusanya and l have been friends for several years and we will remain friends. I had worked very harmoniously with him for over five years. When he was the University’s Director of Administration and Special Duties, we had very harmonious working relationship. His former principal and my own former Boss, Prof. Kayode Soremekun remains my friend and brother. The three of us had worked together for the tremendous success recorded during the years of Prof. Soremekun as the VC of FUOYE. I was then the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, and we had very cordial and fruitful working relationship.

“The Governing Council is above me as the highest authority of the University. It was the Council that constituted the probe panel that investigated Odusanya’s misconduct. He was duly queried and given a right of reply. He replied the query and the University Disciplinary Committee found his reply not tenable enough to exculpate him of the misconduct. He was duly found culpable and punished. So, how does that become personal vendetta or witchhunt from me”, the VC explained.
