The people of Ondo State will head to the polls on Saturday to elect their governor for the next four years.
The election serves as a critical test for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has stated that it has learnt lessons from the Edo State governorship election held in September.
Scheduled for 16 November, the Ondo governorship election marks the first off-cycle poll in Nigeria since the exercise in neighbouring Edo State on 21 September.
Polling units are expected to open at 8:30 am to allow voters to cast their ballots, with INEC officials required to arrive earlier to prepare for the process. Only individuals with a valid Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) will be permitted to vote.

To participate in the election, voters must follow these steps:- Present Your PVC: Upon arrival at the polling station, show your PVC to the INEC officials. Your card will be verified using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
- Accreditation: The official will check your name on the voter register and mark it as accredited.
- Collect Ballot Paper: Once accredited, you will receive a ballot paper and proceed to the voting booth.
- Cast Your Vote: Thumbprint your choice on the ballot paper and deposit it into the ballot box.
- Ink Application: INEC officials may apply ink to your thumb to indicate you have voted.
- Stay or Leave: After voting, you can choose to leave the polling area or stay a short distance away to observe the sorting and counting process.
