The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has affirmed his respect for President Bola Tinubu, emphasising that his critiques are directed at policies rather than the President himself.

Ndume, a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, dismissed claims that he opposes Tinubu, clarifying that his remarks focus on addressing the challenges under the current administration.

“I am not criticising the President but his policies. I am not a critic of this government; it is our government,” Ndume stated.

He added, “I don’t criticise my elders. I am the son of a soldier, and in the barracks, we respect our elders. Tinubu is my elder, and I respect him, but I disagree with him in some areas, hoping to find common ground.”

The senator recounted a light-hearted moment with Tinubu, describing the President’s unexpected attendance at his daughter’s wedding, even though it coincided with Nigerian Army Remembrance Day. “He said he’s not leaving; he’s staying for the wedding. That’s just how he is,” Ndume shared.

Addressing the nation’s pressing issues, Ndume urged Tinubu to focus on implementing the federal budget while prioritising security and citizens’ welfare.

“I have always told Mr President: implement the budget, and Nigerians will be happy. Focus on security and welfare, and everything else will follow,” he advised.
