”I was beaten and my shoulder was dislocated,” popular Fuji star shares how thugs attacked him in Ondo
The Fuji Superstar, Alhaji Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, has shared the details of his encounter with thugs who assaulted him over the weekend in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
Obesere was earlier attacked during a burial ceremony at the Government Field in Okitipupa, where members of his band were also assaulted. One of his band boys was reportedly stabbed while trying to fend off the attackers.
In a statement issued by his Media Manager, Ayonla Obesere Althentic, he explained that “After Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere (Papa) concluded his performance and while we were preparing to leave the venue, large groups of touts surrounded the area.
“One group converged on my location because I was carrying the bag of money. Despite our efforts to leave peacefully, my principal and I were aggressively confronted. The assailants demanded that I hand over the bag; when I refused, a violent struggle ensued.
“During the attack I was beaten and my shoulder was dislocated as a result of the struggle. I was also struck with a knife while attempting to get into the car; I cannot confirm a stabbing wound but I sustained several blows and am in significant pain.
“The attackers overpowered me and made away with the bag of money. At the same time, another group continued to manhandle Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere even after he attempted to placate them by giving money. I later guided Alhaji into our vehicle and we left the scene to seek safety and medical attention.”
The statement strongly condemned the assault, stressing that such violent acts at public events, especially during a burial ceremony, are unacceptable. They confirmed that the incident has been reported to the Okitipupa Police Division and appealed for swift action to apprehend the culprits.
Obesere also expressed gratitude to those who assisted them during the attack, as well as local security and health personnel.
Meanwhile, the council chairman, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, described the incident as both unfortunate and unacceptable. According to his Press Secretary, Tosin Ayejusunle, two suspects linked to the violence have been arrested.
Ogunsakin denounced all forms of hooliganism and said he has initiated efforts to engage with Obesere and his management to ensure such incidents do not recur. He also commended security operatives for their quick intervention and professionalism.
The state police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects as investigations continue.
