A rescued Chibok girl, 27-year-old Ihyi Abdul, has reported that she was married to eight men during her captivity with Boko Haram.
Abdul, who was abducted along with other students in the 2014 Chibok school attack, revealed that she has four children from these marriages, which took place between 2014 and the day she escaped from the Sambisa Forest.
During a briefing to journalists at the Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command headquarters in Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri, Brig. Gen. Abubakar Haruna, Commander Sector One, disclosed that Abdul is currently three months pregnant.
She said, “I trekked for days before getting to a military checkpoint in Nigeria where they took me and my children in.
“I married eight men and gave birth to three children for different husbands.
“I did not escape all the while because I did not want to escape earlier until now.
“We the Chibok girls are not kept in the same camp, and I don’t know why they are still in captivity but those of us have chosen to remain Sambisa, while others have not had the chance to escape.
“As for education, I cannot say anything for now but am not sure I can continue with education).
The theatre command has also handed over 330 rescued families of Boko Haram terrorists to the Borno State government for further management and reintegration into society. These families, who emerged from the Bama and Pulka areas of the Sambisa Forest over the past two weeks, are now under the state’s care.
Captain Mohammed Abdullahi, representing the theatre commander, stated that the logistics supply restrictions imposed on the insurgents for the rainy season are proving effective and will continue to be enforced to maximize results.
The rescue of Ihyi Abdul has increased the total number of rescued Chibok girls to 19.
