Ibadan Stampede: Court remands principal, Ooni’s ex-wife

31

A Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of three individuals linked to last week’s tragic stampede at Bashorun Islamic High School.

The accused include Abdullahi Fasasi, the school principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife.

Presiding over the case on Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi issued the ruling after their arraignment by the Oyo State Police Command.

The proceedings, held under tight security, attracted a large crowd of family members and concerned parties outside the courthouse.

The defendants face four charges related to the incident, with the police prosecutor citing a breach of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi subsequently ordered their remand at Agodi Correctional Center, pending directives from the state prosecutor.
