The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has interrogated former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, regarding allegations of contract awards and job racketeering at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, confirmed that Ngige visited the commission’s headquarters to provide information related to the ongoing investigation. However, Bakare did not disclose specific details about the allegations, noting that the former minister may be called in for further questioning as the inquiry continues.

Bakare also clarified that Ngige, a former governor of Anambra State, was not detained during his appearance at the commission on Wednesday.

Earlier, the ICPC had summoned top officials from the NSITF over accusations related to the alleged ₦47 million gratuity paid to the former Managing Director, Maureen Allagoa, while she was still in service.

Additionally, Ngige’s successor, Senator Simon Lalong, has launched a special investigative committee to probe reported irregularities in contract awards worth up to ₦1.8 billion at the NSITF. Both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are now involved in the matter, prompting Ngige’s invitation for questioning.
