The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has stated that he would rather forfeit his life than betray his political benefactor and predecessor, Ibrahim Gaidam.

Buni made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the recently concluded All Progressives Congress congress held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

“I would rather die than betray him. I remain deeply grateful to him for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” the governor said.

He emphasized that his political career was founded on trust and insisted that betrayal had never been part of his record.

“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody; it is not in my record. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody,” he added.

The governor urged newly elected party officials to remain committed, emphasizing the importance of trust and integrity in executing their duties.

He also highlighted accomplishments of his administration over the past seven years, particularly in education, primary healthcare, empowerment, and commerce, assuring residents that these areas would continue to receive priority attention.

Regarding succession, Buni called on APC members in the state to seek divine guidance in selecting the party’s next governorship candidate. He encouraged party supporters to back a candidate capable of uniting members and sustaining the “good works” of his administration.
