Igbajo Holds First Community Education Summit

Eminent scholars from some of the best tertiary institutions in Nigeria would deliver papers at the first Igbajo Community Education Summit (ICES).

Being hosted under the umbrella of Igbajo Development Association (IDA), ICES will be held at the Professor Ademola Adeshina Hall, Owa’s Palace in Igbajo, on Tuesday, July 27th, 2021.

Themed “Given every child equal opportunity to succeed”, the summit will examine the standards of primary and secondary education in the community. The summit will also proffer solutions to identified challenges.

IDA recently inaugurated the Igbajo Education Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Demola Onifade, a former Commissioner of Education, Osun State.

The committee was tasked amongst others, to convene a summit to address the infrastructural challenges, human resources and sports facilities in primary and secondary schools.

At the inauguration, the IDA President, Mr. Sola Fanawopo explained that the desire of the association is to transform the town from “a community of population to a community of human resources.”

Dr. Demola Onifade said that Chief Gboyega Awomolo (SAN), who is the Asiwaju of Igbajoland, has agreed to chair the summit.

“Osun State Commissioner of Educations, Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin; as well as his counterpart in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Dr. Olabode Henry Olaonipekun, have also accepted to be our guests,” he added.

Dr. Onifade, who is also a member, Board of Trustee, Igbajo Polytechnic informed that eminent scholars would deliver papers at the summit.

Amongst them are; Professor Layi Osungade, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Igbajo Polytechnic, Prof.(Mrs) Olubola Babalola, Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria and Dr.(Mrs) Yemi Aje, Senior Lecturer, Kings University, Ode-Omu, Osun State, Nigeria.

Also expected at the event are Chiefs and Baales from all the towns and villages in Igbajoland, school heads, policymakers, higher education officials, parents and students.

There are 15 public and private primary schools in Igbajo. 11 are public, while 4 are private. Of the 11 Public primary schools, 5 are within the metropolis and 6 in the villages. All the 4 Private Primary schools are within the metropolis.

There are four secondary schools in Igbajo, out of which two are government-owned and managed, while the rest two are privately held.

There is one higher institution in Igbajo, the Igbajo Polytechnic which reputed as Africa’s first community-owned higher institution.
